Good morning friends and family,
THIS IS THE WEEK!
Before I begin, I want to reassure you, this will not be a political push for one candidate or another. Rather, my desire in writing this email is to encourage you. My hope is that God’s Spirit would bring you peace and hope no matter the outcome on Tuesday.
So please keep reading.
Everything we have been witness to in the media, social media, and radio all comes down to this week. But, the chaos of this campaign isn’t new. Lacey and I have been watching a series on Hulu called Race for the Whitehouse. It goes through history highlighting the campaigns of the presidential candidates. What strikes me is that nothing that has happened this election season is unique. In fact, our modern campaign tactics can be traced back to the Jackson and Adams presidential campaigns of 1828.
Here’s the point. Politics has always been surrounded by chaos, slander, and propaganda. We can even see this in Scripture. Remember the political veteran Saul and the up-and-coming outsider, David? The newspapers, twitter feeds, and political analysts all said, “Saul has slain his thousands, David his tens of thousands.”
Thankfully, as Christians, we have not been sucked into all that chaos, propaganda, and slander during this election season.
“Remind believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.”
~ Titus 3:1-2
I’m truly excited about this election.
Not because of the candidates or the agendas they have. Although, the debates have been pretty entertaining.
I’m excited because I am once again reminded that the Kingdom of Heaven is absolutely the opposite of what we’ve seen demonstrated in our media, online, and on the radio.
Rather than chaos, the Kingdom brings peace.
Rather than propaganda, the Kingdom brings joy.
Rather than slander, the Kingdom brings hope.
I am overwhelmed with knowing that I am on the winning team because God’s Kingdom wins. And as a citizen of His Kingdom I have the ever-present Holy Spirit living inside of me.
“For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority—whether the king as head of state, or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right. It is God’s will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusations against you. For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. Fear God, and respect the king.”
~ 1 Peter 2:13-17
Jesus’ Kingdom has been growing since the first century. It has been overtaking every other kingdom in history. As Christians, we do not live as citizens of America. Rather, we live as citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven who are overtaking America through the power of the Holy Spirit.
We trust the Heavenly Father for provision, not the government. We follow Jesus’ law of grace, love, and mercy, not the judicial system. And, we are comforted by the Holy Spirit’s victory over sin and death, not our military over terrorism and ISIS.
Finally, we are united under the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, not the next President of the United States of America.
My prayer is that my life would be marked by the power of the living God inside of me for whom I represent rather than the party I believe best represents me.
My desire is that people would experience the Heavenly Father’s immeasurable never stopping, never giving up, always and forever love, mercy, and grace through the Holy Spirit’s unquenchable love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control in my life.
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgement.”
~ Romans 13:1-2
So, as a Christian, I have had to ask myself several questions during this past election season:
How have I been doing in representing the Kingdom of Heaven this election season ? Have I been marked by fear or faith? Hype or hope? Political parties or peace?
Have I, as an ambassador for Jesus, acted in a respectful, humble, and honorable manner? What have my actions been toward those with whom I disagree? What have I said to them or about them? What have my thoughts been toward them?
Finally, regardless of the outcome, am I willing to unconditionally respect and honor our next president not because I think they may be right or good but because I unconditionally submit to Jesus Christ my Lord?
OUR PRAYER & PRAISE REPORT
Presidential Election: I hope that we have all been praying for this year’s election. God is sovereign and all-powerful. But in His sovereignty and power He has chosen to work through humans. May we be led by the Holy Spirit in our vote. But most importantly, may we derive our peace and hope from Him no matter the outcome.
Prayer & Finance: During this time every year, Lacey and I pray and re-evaluate our own financial giving and partnerships for the next year. I ask that you would please prayerfully consider partnering with us in seeing Christian’s live free, joy-filled lives. We depend on ministry partners to teach and travel. Please click the link below if you would like to partner with us.
Bethel, Alaska Christian Living Intensive: In December, Eric Rozeboom (ABI President) and I will be flying out to Bethel, Alaska to co-teach part of the Christian Living curriculum. Please be in prayer for us as we prepare to teach this curriculum to native village pastors and leaders.
